Covering Entrepreneurs at Collision in New Orleans

Editor’s Note: This post was co-written by Adriana Lopez, Contributing Writer at Forbes and Summer Suleiman, Editor of The Distillery. It was originally published on NOEW.org. New Orleans Entrepreneur Week is an annual festival celebrating entrepreneurship and innovation in New Orleans.

Collision kicked off this week in New Orleans, and we are trying to tackle this tech mammoth the best way we can. With hundreds of startups showcasing throughout the week, we’ve decided to team up with friend and Forbes contributing writer, Adriana Lopez.

Our objective: to meet as many entrepreneurs as possible.

We took a spin on regular reporting, put away our media credentials, and set off “undercover” to get the scoop on the companies. We asked entrepreneurs to give us real, raw one minute pitches. Then, we identified ourselves to the entrepreneurs at the end of the conversation. Surprise!

Here’s who we discovered on Day 1 of our little media experiment.

Mojoe

Who:

Joseph Hyman, CEO and Alexandre Wing, COO

What:

MoJoe Brewing Co.

Where:

Based in Baltimore, Maryland

What we liked:

The company’s own COO so eloquently stated that their innovative product is the lovechild of a coffee maker and travel coffee mug. Writers like us have been dreaming of this day. The first of its kind, the mojoe brews one cup of fresh, hot coffee of your choice inside of a stainless steel travel mug.

Favorite app:

“Mine is definitely Slack. I actually hated it at first, but [Alex] made me do it. Now he turns his on ‘do not disturb.’” – Joseph

SearchStyle

Who:

Lucas Shorvan and Natalie Grogan, Co-Founders

What:

Search Style Ltd.

Where:

Based in the UK

What we liked:

The online network of street style and fashion photos was originally created as a collaborative blog space. However, the co-founders found that their network could benefit fashion brands that range from large fast fashion companies to small designers, by helping them determine the trend forecast for their specific target market.

Favorite app:

“I love Instagram. I always have and I always will. I even have an Instagram page for my cat. I’m one of those people.” -Lucas

Pressimus

Who: Co-founders Sam Razi, James Miller, Jackson Chao

What:

Pressimus

Where:

Based in Los Angeles

What we liked:

A social live publishing platform that essentially lets you hook up your social media accounts to your Pressimus account and do searches on live content on the topic you search, and incorporate those things into your articles and do streams of those articles. Pressimus allows you to syndicate, on any web property at the click of a mouse.

Favorite app: Reddit, Twitter, Instagram

Bovimax

Who:

Co-founder Vanessa Herrera

What:

Bovimax

Where:

Based in Mexico

What we liked:

Bovimax is an app that allows owners of herds to gather all information on their smartphone to improve the management of their herd. Right now they are doing everything on their notebooks, and it’s not easy. The notebook can get lost, yo have human error, but with our app, they can have all the information more easily and available, and the best part is no internet is needed. They can capture all the information in the field with no internet, and when then when they connect on Wifi, they send all the information to the cloud. The farmers don’t use a lot of technology, but we’re going to change that. Most people have a smart phone, so they can use it.

Favorite app: Whatsapp
